War/Sport: A Modern History

My first book examines the remarkable ways in which war and sport have intersected in modern culture.

I trace these intersections—both in metaphor and in material culture—as they have coursed through film, literature, philosophy, and visual art in Europe and America since the late-nineteenth century. I identify in particular the unique insights the joint imaginary of war and sport presents into the history of the body and its shifting ties with technology. Revealing the deep aesthetic and political consequences of war and sport’s intersection, it is the first study to address this richly interdisciplinary topic.
